TopShots

A reminder that the TopShots exhibition at Monash Gallery of Art closes soon. This exhibition showcases some of the best student photography from around Victoria. Students come from the Studio Arts and Media streams. We hope to have some of the entries in the next issue of 50 Lux magazine. It’s probably a bit late to book school groups, but try to get along and support some great young photographers.
Closes – 29 March 2015

Inspiration by Design

Just opened is: Inspiration by Design: Word and Image from the Victoria and Albert Museum. This compact exhibition is in the Keith Murdoch Gallery to the right of the State Library entrance. Although it primarily consists of printed materials, including some stunning illuminated manuscripts, there are a range of fascinating photographs including early work by Julia Margaret Cameron. Other notable pieces are the Nazi propaganda magazines. These made extensive use of some quite heavily retouched photography long before Photoshop.

Top Arts

Top Arts has also just opened at the National Gallery of Victoria in the Federation Square campus. Unlike TopShots, this encompasses more than just photography. Of particular merit is the work by Lauren De Rycke.
